Knights Basketball Teams Wrap Up Regular Season Play

The OLHCA Knights varsity and junior varsity teams finished up their regular season against the Denver Eagles Thursday night in Arvada. Both teams played their best basketball of the year.
The Eagles junior varsity team came out strong against the Knights, but the boys responded well. The home team played a tough defense on us, and we struggled to break the trap. But in the third quarter, Joe Cichos (#30) took the lead and helped us back to nearly tie the game. Good rebounding by Brenden Zylla (#32) kept it close. In the end we weren't able to get consistent scoring, so couldn't quite close it out. It was a well-fought game and the best the boys played all season.

As this was the Eagles' Senior Night, their senior players were honored during the break between the games. We learned in those player interviews that two of their boys would be moving on to play basketball in college, one on a full schollarship. It was a festive atmosphere, but one which didn't last too long after the teams took to the court for the Varsity game.
Matt Conder (#13) drained three 3’s in a row early, forcing the Eagles to go to man defense which we exploited with a good pick and roll game. Joe Comandari (#27) brought strong intensity that pushed their defense back a bit, opening up other shots. Great defense was played throughout by Joe McDermott (#25), Matt Conder, and Jake Cichos (#31). Jake worked hard against their center and wore him down all game. The bench was very solid and played excellent defense. Jake and Joe Comandari nailed free throws at the end to ice the game.
It was a thrilling game to witness for the fans, and all are looking to support the Knights teams as they move into the FRCAA tournament this coming week, with the first games on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. Check the schedule for detailed times and locations.
