January 26th was a day of high spirits for Our Lady Help of Christians Academy. For all students (and staff), the day began with the glorious announcement: “due to snow, school is cancelled today.”

Sleep-filled eyes and peaceful hearts soon quickened as the events of the evening drew near . . . that night would hold the first ever Spirit Night for Our Lady Help of Christians Academy, hosted at Aurora Quest K-8 Gym.

When students arrived, they were coated in blue or white face paint by enthusiastic members of staff.  Everyone was eager to show their support for the school and especially for the Knights Basketball team in their game against the Legacy Legends. Excitement grew as the game approached, and spectators soon spilled into the aisles. The Knights followed their coaches – Mr. Daniel Eddy and Fr. McBride (serving as replacements due to the unavoidable absence of the standard coaches) – off the court for the pre-game huddle. After some typically rousing words from Mr. Tony Pfeiffer – encouraging the players, especially the seniors, to “go kick some...!” – the boys burst through the team banner onto the court, amid the thunderous cheers of the many fans.

The lead was quickly seized by the Knights. But due to the numerous banners the fans waved through the air, the lead narrowed to just a few points. Nevertheless, the team quickly regained their lost ground, finishing the game with a final score of 60-43 and securing another victory for the 2024 season. As pride for their team swelled the fans’ hearts, the night ended with the singing of Non Nobis.
