Senior Class Patron, St. Christopher, Pray for Us!

“My yoke is sweet and my burden is light.”

The graduating class of 2025 has chosen Saint Christopher to be their patron because of his inspiring life and virtues. St. Christopher, as a young man, wished to serve the most powerful master he could find, so he went from place to place looking for who may be strongest. By this quest St. Christopher knew that Christ was more powerful than any king, or even the devil, so he sought out a hermit to instruct him in the Faith. This hermit advised him to settle down near a river in order to use his physical greatness to carry travelers across the dangerous passing. One day a child came to the river and St. Christopher started across with him; but as he went the child became heavier and heavier. The saint managed to reach the other side and asked the child why he was so heavy. The child responded that he was Christ, who carried the weight of mankind’s sins with him. The child then disappeared. St. Christopher was martyred under Emperor Decius in 251 for refusing to sacrifice to false gods.

The class of 2025 chose Our Lord’s words from St. Matthew’s gospel, “My yoke is sweet and my burden is light,” for their class quote. St. Christopher perfectly embodies this quote because he physically carried the Christ Child across the water. Throughout their whole lives, the seniors hope to carry Christ always in their hearts and, as St. Christopher did, to make good use of the gifts God has given them to better the world and save their souls.
